Trailer Time: 47 Ronin, The Harder They Come & The Seventh Son

47 Ronin looks pretty rad as you can see in this new international trailer. But we’ll have to wait until December 25th to see if that’s the case.

One of the most beloved music flicks of all time, The Harder They Come starring Jimmy Cliff, is returning to select theaters this September. The film features a wannabe musician who must turn to crime to make it in the world.

This one’s from last month, but check out the first trailer from Jeff Bridges’ The Seventh Son which will now be distributed through Universal instead of Legendary’s previous partner Warner Bros. Looks sufficiently epic and fantastical. We can’t wait to see Jeff Bridges in the “wise old teacher” role. The film does not yet have a U.S. release date.

Universal Denies Rumors Of Matt Damon & Paul Greengrass Re-Teaming For Bourne Sequel

Film Title: The Bourne UltimatumIf you were hoping that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass would re-team for the fifth Bourne movie, Universal’s got some news for you: not happening. After TwitchFilm reported that the Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum duo were in talks with Universal to return to the franchise, the studio came right out and told Variety that there’s “no truth” to the rumor.

Sounds like a pretty done deal then, right? Well, Twitch updated their original post with “we remain very confident in our sources.”

The fifth Bourne film, which doesn’t yet have an official title, is being written by Sherlock Holmes’ Anthony Peckham and presumably focuses on Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character as introduced in The Bourne Legacy.

Divorces can be rough, especially when kids are involved. When Legendary split from Warners earlier this summer, some of the films the former financed were left without distribution. That was the case with Sergei Bodrov’s The Seventh Son, but don’t worry, the Jeff Bridges film will now be distributed by Legendary’s new partner Universal. [via TheWrap]

Ang Lee Bringing 3D Boxing Recreations To Big Screen

ang lee life of pi

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hulk and Life Of Pi director Ang Lee is bringing his unique vision to the sweet science. Deadline reports that the director’s next project will feature real life characters from the world of boxing presented in the kind of eye-popping 3D he utilized with Pi. Set up at Universal, the new film — which is currently untitled — is said to recreate famous fights from the 60s and 70s like Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali’s Thrilla In Manila.

As Deadline points out, no one would officially respond to questions about the project, so we’re still pretty in the dark as to what the actual plot of the Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, Rush) script will be. Still, considering how good his past efforts have looked on the big screen, this one should be something of a visual treat.

Sherlock Holmes Writer Working On Bourne Legacy Sequel

bourne legacy jeremy renner

Universal’s not letting filmgoers forget The Bourne LegacyDeadline reports that the studio snagged Invictus and Sherlock Holmes screenwriter Anthony Peckham to work on the currently-untitled fifth film in the franchise. With Matt Damon not returning for Legacy, the franchise switched gears, revealing that the government didn’t put all their eggs in the Jason Bourne basket. They also had chemically and biologically altered super soldier Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) in the works who was going on his own adventures.

The film, like the previous Bourne flicks, is based on the ideas of writer Robert Ludlum who passed away in 2001. Renner is expected to return, but it’s currently unclear if Legacy director Tony Gilroy (Duplicity, Michael Clayton) is coming back as well.

Mark Wahlberg Gets Serious In Lone Survivor Trailer

With 2 Guns opening this weekend and Lone Survivor hitting this winter, Mark Wahlberg’s showing very different acting chops on the big screen. As we mentioned yesterday, 2 Guns seems to have a more light hearted, comedic tone to it, at least judging by his character’s one-liners, while Survivor is a lot more serious. Directed by Peter Berg (Hancock, The Rundown), this new film tells the (based on a true) story of a quartet of Navy Seals whose mission in Afghanistan goes sour and they have to eventually fight their way out of trouble. The film also stars Taylor Kitsch, Eric Bana, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.

The above trailer showcases the dramatic aspects of the film which, according to Variety, is being pushed as an Oscar contender by Universal hence the early New York and LA release of December 27 in advance of the wider January 10th one.
