For Your Home Viewing Pleasure: October 8th, 2013

after earth bluWe can’t speak to the quality of the Will and Jaden Smith father and son sci-fi flick After Earth, but we can say it’s out now on Blu-ray, DVD and the like.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition gives Batman fans what they really wanted from this adaptation of the seminal Frank Miller Batman series: everything on one three disc set.

It’s funny when you think back to the days when, first, Lucasfilm didn’t want to put the Star Wars out as a set on DVD and then it took a while to get them on Blu-ray. Now in the past few years we’ve had a number of different sets. There’s two more now, Star Wars Trilogy Episodes IV-VI and Star Wars Trilogy Episodes I-III that include both DVD and Blu-ray versions of the films.

Hasbro’s latest home video offering Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising looks great on Blu-ray and features a pretty fun story even if you’re not steeped in the lore. Don’t believe us? Check it out!

In other TV-related news, A&E Home Video has a collection of The Avengers episodes featuring none other than that iconic super spy herself: Emma Peel. Dubbed The Avengers: The Complete Emma Peel Megaset the set contains all 51 of Diana Rigg’s episodes as the character on the three discs.Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life

Finally, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life is now available on Blu-ray, so that’s a thing.

Machete Kills Ramps Up With Clips & Posters Before Debut

After this week we probably won’t hear too much more about Machete Kills because the film debuts this Friday. Before we can start lining up for our tickets, though, director Robert Rodriguez and company have a number of new trailers, clips and posters for us to check out.

Above you’ve got a nice little Sofia Vergara-specific mini-trailer, while below you’ll find an incredibly NSFW clip of her talking to her loyal army of prostitutes.

Michelle Rodriguez and Lady Gaga also got in on the short trailer action:

If you prefer your looks at ladies a little more static, then feast your eyes on the latest character poster, this one featuring Alexa Vega’s Killjoy. machete-kills-poster-alexa-vega

And finally, here’s Robert Rodriguez and the cast talking about the network of actors he’s amassed throughout his career.

If you’re still not interested in Machete Kills, which opens this Friday, you’re pretty much a lost cause.

Trailer Time: Jack Ryan: Shadow One & Escape Plan

The timing is pretty crummy for this first Jack Ryan: Shadow One trailer to hit so close to author Tom Clancy’s recent passing, but it’s still nice to celebrate the man’s work which had been so influential. This first trailer from the Year One type film stars Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Kenneth Branagh who also stars as the bad guy. The film opens on December 25th.

Escape Plan, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, now has TV spots that seem to be playing in fairly regular rotation. Better yet, they do a pretty solid job of explaining the film in greater detail than we’d seen previously. This one bows on October 18th.

Trailer Time: Need For Speed, Thor: The Dark WorldArrow

The first Need For Speed trailer featuring Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul hit last week and looks pretty interesting. The plot revolves around Paul’s ex-con character getting wrapped up in a cross country race for shady reasons. The film debuts March 14, 2014.

Marvel Studios is rolling out the PR juggernaut for the next film Thor: The Dark World. The movie opens on November 8th. This latest TV spot shines the spotlight on Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, her concern for Chris Hemsworth Thor and her contempt for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.

So, technically this is a clip and not a trailer, but it seemed to fit with the theme pretty well. The very first clip from the first episode of Arrow‘s second season features Diggle and Felicity reuniting with Arthur  on the island. The episode debuts on The CW, October 9th at 8:00 PM.

Arrow Season Opener Teased In Images, Trailer

The CW has big plans for the upcoming season Arrow. Not only have the show’s writers upped the ante when it comes to bringing in more characters from the DC Universe, but they’re also looking to expand into new shows thanks to a three episode arc featuring Barry Allen/The Flash that will work as a backdoor pilot. But, before all that, we’ve got to check out the first episode of the second season which premieres on October 9th at 8:00 PM EST.

Called “City Of Heroes,” the first episode features returning cast members like Stephen Amell, Karie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Willa Holland, Colton Haynes, Paul Blackthorne and new addition Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev. Between the images above and the clips below, you can get a pretty good idea of where the characters are picking up after the first season finale.

Here’s the latest clip for the new season:

And here’s one featuring a few words from Amell about this new season:

Finally, if you haven’t watched the finale in a while, this video should help catch you back up:

More Machete Kills Reveals For Your Weekend Enjoyment

Of course, just as soon as we posted about the most recent clips from Machete Kills yesterday we did some more looking around and found even more clips and some brand new images. But, since we don’t want to overload you with Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo craziness, we figured saving some specialness for the weekend would make sense. Above you can see Amber Heard playing Q to Machete’s James Bond as she sets him up with an arsenal of weapons. Meanwhile, below, check out 10 new images from the film featuring Trejo, Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega, Sofia Vergara and more, many of which look like shots from scenes we’ve already seen in various forms.

Machete Kills opens October 11th.

Stallone & Schwarzenegger Throw Down In Escape Plan

Director Mikael Håfström (1402, The Rite) has a pretty interesting project in Escape Plan. Not only does the film sport a fairly high concept — a prison designer gets locked up in a super-high-tech prison he designed — but it also stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. As you can see in the clip above, two of the most titanic presences in action history beat on each other at least once in the film. Collider posted that clip as well as the following images which mostly feature Stallone, with Schwarzenegger only in one. We threw in the film’s poster as well because we haven’t shown it off before yet.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Escape Plan follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed every high security prison and has gained a vast array of survival skills. But all Ray’s ingenuity and knowledge are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from the master prison of his own design.

Schwarzenegger, in the role of Church, plays a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.

Escape Plan bows on October 18th.

New Oldboy Clip & Posters Look Appropriately Creepy

Spike Lee’s re-interpretation of Oldboy is set to hit theaters in a few months, so expect to see a lot of ads floating around both online and more traditional media in the near future. A website called Hotel Oldboy has all kinds of posters extolling the virtues of Josh Brolin’s abode as well as a clip featuring Samuel L. Jackson delivering a less-than-hopeful message.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Oldboy is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Oldboy, which also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Lance Reddick and Michael Imperioli, opens on November 27th. Are you ready for your stay?

Trailer Time: Homefront, Grudge Match & Mortal Kombat Legacy

Jason Statham faces off against James Franco and his drug army in Homefront, an adaptation of Chuck Logan’s novel of the same name penned by Sylvester Stallone. Kate Bosworth and Winona Ryder also star in the film which opens on November 27th.

Just yesterday we showed you the first image from the Sylvester Stallone/Robert De Niro boxing comedy Grudge Match and now you can check out the trailer from the flick. Fun fact: the director pieced together training footage of Stallone from Rocky and De Niro from Raging Bull to create the flashback boxing matches! The movie opens on December 25th.

Machinima announced that the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy II will kick off on the site on September 26th and released this all new trailer for the web series.
