Vin Diesel & David Twohy Shine Some Light On Riddick

Earlier this week Katee Sackhoff talked about how much pressure she feels about her role in Riddick. Now you can check out star Vin Diesel and director David Twohy talking about their vision for the third film in the sci-fi trilogy along with Pitch Black and The Chronicles Of Riddick.

Want more info? Here’s the official synopsis:

The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Riddick also stars  David Bautista, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo and Karl Urban. The film opens September 6th.

Arrow New Poster, Character Revealed

arrow_season2_poster One of the most action-packed shows around continues hyping their second season. In addition to revealing the above poster, The CW also announced that the DC Comics-based Arrow will also feature an infamous character from the comics: Amanda Waller. SpoilerTV ran the following synopsis for “Keep Your Enemies Closer,” the sixth episode of the season:

This episode will see the introduction of recurring character Amanda Waller who is an agent of A.R.G.U.S. who sends out a team to kidnap Diggle.

A.R.G.U.S. was introduced as sneaky spy organization in 2011 as part of DC’s New 52 relaunch. In the comics, the group is partially run by Waller, a character with a long history of pulling strings behind the scenes and using superhumans and vigilantes to achieve her goals. The group itself has already appeared on Arrow in the episode “Home Invasion.”

Arrow’s second season kicks off on Wednesday, October 9th at 8:00 PM EST on The CW.

Katee Sackhoff “Incredibly Nervous” About Riddick

katee sackhoff riddick-1 Katee Sackhoff’s feeling a lot of pressure these days. The actress known for starring on Battlestar Galactica and currently appearing in A&E’s Longmire is looking at Riddick, her next big screen outing, as a huge opportunity as she said to Collider earlier this week.

“There’s still a large majority of the population that doesn’t know what Battlestar Galactica is and hasn’t seen it, so this is the first time a lot of people are going to see me play this type of character,” the actress said. “When you have the large majority of the estrogen quota sitting on your shoulders in a movie, it’s a big task. I joke that it’s not like someone is gonna walk away from the movie and say, ‘The girl was bad,’ and someone is gonna go, ‘Which one?’ My fingers are crossed that it’s going to be really, really great, but I’m incredibly nervous. But, I was this nervous when Battlestar came out.  I tested and auditioned for this role in stiletto heels. They cast me in stilettos. That’s who I am. So, to then shift my personality so much and become these strong characters is interesting. It’s always interesting how people are going to perceive it.”

Here’s the film’s RED BAND (read: NSFW) trailer featuring Sackhoff:

When asked about appearing on the Women Who Kick Ass panel and whether that made her feel more comfortable in her role as an action star, Sackhoff said: “100%, yeah. That was a great day. It was a great day for Comic-Con, and it was a great day for women in film and women in action. And I applaud Entertainment Weekly for doing that panel because it is a great panel. As a little girl growing up, this is who I wanted to be, as far as my career is concerned. To have it be validated is a really great thing. I’m sure if everyone on that panel had it up to them, there would be hundreds of millions of strong little girls running around, not taking any shit.”

Riddick, the third film in the Vin Diesel-starring, David Twohy-directed trilogy, opens on September 6th. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Trailer Time: 47 Ronin, The Harder They Come & The Seventh Son

47 Ronin looks pretty rad as you can see in this new international trailer. But we’ll have to wait until December 25th to see if that’s the case.

One of the most beloved music flicks of all time, The Harder They Come starring Jimmy Cliff, is returning to select theaters this September. The film features a wannabe musician who must turn to crime to make it in the world.

This one’s from last month, but check out the first trailer from Jeff Bridges’ The Seventh Son which will now be distributed through Universal instead of Legendary’s previous partner Warner Bros. Looks sufficiently epic and fantastical. We can’t wait to see Jeff Bridges in the “wise old teacher” role. The film does not yet have a U.S. release date.

Universal Denies Rumors Of Matt Damon & Paul Greengrass Re-Teaming For Bourne Sequel

Film Title: The Bourne UltimatumIf you were hoping that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass would re-team for the fifth Bourne movie, Universal’s got some news for you: not happening. After TwitchFilm reported that the Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum duo were in talks with Universal to return to the franchise, the studio came right out and told Variety that there’s “no truth” to the rumor.

Sounds like a pretty done deal then, right? Well, Twitch updated their original post with “we remain very confident in our sources.”

The fifth Bourne film, which doesn’t yet have an official title, is being written by Sherlock Holmes’ Anthony Peckham and presumably focuses on Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character as introduced in The Bourne Legacy.

The Grandmaster might have opened on only seven screens last weekend, but it still earned a per-screen average better than any other release. The Ip Man biopic starring Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi opens much wider to around 600 screen this weekend and will hopefully continue making a good deal of cash. [via THR]

The movie’s already got Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff on board and now includes Step Up 3D and You’re Next star Sharni Vinson. [via Collider]

Word on the street is that Sony’s making a TV series based on Robert Rodriguez’s excellent El Mariachi trilogy. Great news, right? Sylvester Stallone “Will Not Portray” Rambo In TV Series

rambo first blood part 2 Well, that didn’t take long to clear up. Just a few days ago, Entertainment One and Nu Image announced that they’re working on a Rambo TV series that film star Sylvester Stallone could possibly appear in. But now The Hollywood Reporter got exclusive word from Stallone’s people who said he will not appear on the show.

“While a television series based on the Rambo property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen,” the PR rep said. They did note that the Academy Award winning actor/screenwriter might have a hand in the creative side of things.

How do you think they’re going to handle this one, gang? The original Rambo was a Vietnam vet who could never quite fit back into society, so what will the deal be with the new version? They could go the period piece-route and keep the same basic premise or update the character as a veteran who served in Iraq or Afghanistan. Also, will they just reset the whole thing or make the new character a relative of John Rambo a la the Shaft movie starring Sam Jackson? What would be your ultimate Rambo show?

Tony Jaa Making Hollywood Debut In Fast & Furious 7

tony jaa ong bak Two of the greatest martial artists on film will be teaming up to star in Fast & Furious 7. We’ve known for a while now that Jason Statham will play the bad guy, but now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, we learned that Thai ass kicker Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak, The Protector) will be in the cast.

The film finds Statham’s Ian Shaw seeking revenge against the crew for his brother played by Luke Evans in the previous film. Series stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will return along with relative newcomer Dwayne Johnson. Meanwhile, actual fighter Ronda Rousey is in talks to join the project along with Tyrese Gibson who recently snapped a photo with director James Wan in front of the film’s first poster.

This will be Jaa’s first U.S. film. A fan of the Fast & Furious movies, Jaa said, “There is no better film to be involved in for a first U.S. studio production.” He went on to say that, regardless of whether he actually fights Diesel or Johnson on camera, he’s excited about the project.  “Having a chance to work with Vin Diesel and The Rock already makes me a winner.”

The Explosions Are Rad crew have been fans of Jaa since we stumbled upon The Protector several years back. He brings an intensity and realism to his action scenes that are hard to match (see below for what it might look like for him to fight a guy like Johnson). Bringing some of that raw physicality to the chase and heist-centric franchise will be pretty interesting. However, if Jaa doesn’t fight Statham on screen, it will be a hugely wasted opportunity. Make it happen Wan!

Fast & Furious 7 hits on July 11, 2014.

Finally, we lost two icons in the world of films and crime fiction this week. Elmore Leonard, whose adapted novels include Rum Punch (transformed into Jackie Brown by Quentin Tarantino) and Get Shorty, passed on August 20th at the age of 87. Legendary director Ted Post (Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, Magnum Force, Good Guys Wear Black) passed away on the same day at the age of 95. Our thoughts are with the families of these two incredibly prolific individuals.
