Trailer Time: I, Frankenstein, 47 Ronin & Out Of The Furnace

After showing off that new image of Aaron Eckhart as Adam, the I, Frankenstein gang unveiled the first trailer which comes packed with winged monsters, fire, Bill Nighy and Yvonne Strahovski, all of which are very good things. The film opens on January 24, 2014.

The latest 47 Ronin trailer features a good deal of footage we’ve already seen, but a bit more of Keanu taking on the dragon. Still looks like a lot of rad stuff in this film which debuts on December 25th.

Out Of The Furnace finds Christian Bale delving into the world of underground fight clubs run by Woody Harrelson in Out Of The Furnace. The December 6th debuting dramatic thriller looks pretty intense if we do say so ourselves.

For Your Home Viewing Pleasure: October 1st, 2013

This week has a lot in the way of older movies presented in new and different ways, but not a lot of brand new action films. Still, there’s some pretty interesting offerings, so let’s jump in.this is the end blu-ray

The biggest new release in our arena is the disaster comedy This Is The End which finds hyper-real versions of Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, James Franco and Jonah Hill surviving the apocalypse.

John Cusack has been kind of slowly turning into Nicholas Cage over the past few years (see: The Raven), so it only makes sense that they’d appear in a movie together. In the thriller The Frozen Ground, Cusack’s a serial killer and Cage is trying to stop him. What more do you need to know?jcvd double feature the order nowhere to run

Jean-Claude Van Damme fans will be happy to discover that two of his films are making their way to Blu-ray on the same set. Thanks to the Jean-Claude Van Damme Double Feature: The Order / Nowhere to Run you can watch both movies back to back without getting up from the couch.

We here at Explosions Are Rad hadn’t heard of the Chinese crime thriller Cold War before seeing it on Amazon this morning. But after seeing the trailer above, it’s certainly one we’re going to check out.

A pair of very different director’s cuts made their debut this week. Troy Duffy’s cut of The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day and Luc Besson’s The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec [Director’s Cut] now offer their more complete visions for their films.

1997 was a big year for fire-coming-out-of-the-ground movies. You had your Dante’s Peak and your Volcano. Whose side were you on? Well, either way, the Tommy Lee Jones starring Volcano is now available on Blu-ray.TMNT_Ultimate_Showdown

We’ve only seen a handful of episodes of the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show on Nickelodoen, but it’s pretty darn cool. We’re thinking of catching up more with the latest DVD release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Ultimate Showdown.MagnumPI_Complete

If you’re looking to relive Tom Selleck’s 80s hey day all in one convenient box set then Magnum P.I.: The Complete Series might be right up your alley. The series lasted from 1980-1988 and consists of 42 discs.phineas and ferb mission marvel

Finally, Jeff Bridges opened up a bit about the failure of R.I.P.D., one of Universal’s few flops in recent memory. “I had such a great time working on that movie,” Bridges said. “I remember what we were doing. I thought: This could be fun to see. And when I saw it, I was a little underwhelmed. For my mind, the studio made some, uh, choices that I wouldn’t have made.” [via GQ]

Friday Night Fights: Freddy Vs. Jason

*Friday Night Fights presents crazy fight and battle scenes from movies with little-to-no context. If you haven’t seen the movie, you’ll probably want to skip the clip. *

 Freddy-vs-Jason

In honor of Friday the 13th, it seemed ridiculously appropriate to present the epic throw-down between two of horror’s biggest icons from the 2003 flick Freddy Vs. Jason. This fight is pretty much what we wanted the entire movie to be, but apparently you need scared teenagers for these kinds of things to work and not mutilated monsters trying to murder each other for 90 minutes.

Trailer Time: Homefront, Grudge Match & Mortal Kombat Legacy

Jason Statham faces off against James Franco and his drug army in Homefront, an adaptation of Chuck Logan’s novel of the same name penned by Sylvester Stallone. Kate Bosworth and Winona Ryder also star in the film which opens on November 27th.

Just yesterday we showed you the first image from the Sylvester Stallone/Robert De Niro boxing comedy Grudge Match and now you can check out the trailer from the flick. Fun fact: the director pieced together training footage of Stallone from Rocky and De Niro from Raging Bull to create the flashback boxing matches! The movie opens on December 25th.

Machinima announced that the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy II will kick off on the site on September 26th and released this all new trailer for the web series.

New Russian 47 Ronin Trailer Showcases Mystical Foes

The more new material we see from Carl Rinsch’s 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves, the more excited we get. The first trailer and batch of posters were pretty epic looking and while the international trailer didn’t offer much in the way of new, this latest Russian trailer certainly shows off a few new looks at some of Reeves’ opponents in all their monster-y glory.

Here’s the film’s summary:

From ancient Japan’s most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure 47 Ronin is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors.

47 Ronin also stars Rinko Kikuchi and Rick Genest and hits theaters on December 25th.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Open To The Idea Of A Buffy Flick

buffy cast

In news that surprises pretty much no one, Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar would be interested in doing a film based on the cult Joss Whedon TV series. While talking to E! about her upcoming CBS sitcom The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams, they asked her about the idea of returning as the Sunnydale graduate on the big screen.

“Joss and I always talk about [a movie],” Gellar said. “But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn’t work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time.”

She added, “If there was ever the right story, we would do it.” Of course, the world of Buffy has lived on in the form of a Whedon-run comic book series at Dark Horse and the creator himself is in high demand after making huge amounts of money for Marvel with The Avengers. Whedon’s got the juice, so if he wants to make it happen, now might be a good time to get the ball rolling. Would you like to see him go a completely new route or adapt one of the comic book stories?

Friday Night Fights: Michael Vs. Gabriel In Legion (2010)

legion paul bettany kevin durant*Friday Night Fights does presents crazy fight and battle scenes from movies with little-to-no context. If you haven’t seen the movie, you’ll probably want to skip the clip. *

Today’s Friday Night Fight was inspired by Deadline‘s news that Syfy is making a show based on director Scott Stewart’s Legion from 2010.  I don’t remember much about the film, but this battle between Paul Bettany’s Michael and Kevin Durand’s Gabriel is pretty rad. The actual fight starts around the 2:30 mark.

Personal highlights include that crazy spinning mace weapon and the way they used the wings throughout. You’ll believe a man can fly…in a diner…with wings.
